Body-Mind Centering®
About Body-Mind Centering®
Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) is an approach that invites you to explore the body as a dynamic, multidimensional system. It supports the development of somatic awareness, deepens the connection with the body, and creates space for creative exploration. Combining anatomical knowledge and developmental movement patterns with direct experience through movement, touch, breath, and voice, it is a practice rooted in exploring and experiencing what is alive and present in the body, integrating internal sensations with external perception and expression.
The work with the body encompasses various layers and tissues, such as bones, muscles, organs, fluids, the nervous system, endocrine glands, senses, as well as early movement patterns and embryological development. Each of these elements brings unique qualities, enriching our movement, perception, and expression.
What does the practice look like

Body-Mind Centering® offers space for both group and individual work, supporting the exploration of personal themes, the development of movement expression, and the well-being of the body and mind.

During the practice:

  • You explore somatic movement through the Body-Mind Centering® approach.
  • You experience movement improvisation, creating space for spontaneous expression.
  • You engage in hands-on work (bodywork), based on consent.
  • You deepen your understanding of the anatomical aspects of the body, using them as inspiration for further exploration.
  • You practice solo, in pairs, and in groups, tailoring the experiences to your individual needs.
For Whom

Body-Mind Centering® is applicable across various fields and is embraced by individuals involved in movement, dance, yoga, bodywork, somatics, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, adult and child education, voice work, music, art, meditation, sports, and other practices that integrate body and mind.

BMC® is for anyone who wishes to deepen their relationship with their body, regardless of their level of experience.

The History of BMC®

Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) was developed in the 1970s by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, an American dancer, therapist, and movement researcher. Her work, created in collaboration with dancers, therapists, and children, laid the foundation for an approach that integrates movement, awareness, and anatomy, enabling a deeper understanding of the body and its potential.

The practice of BMC® continues to grow thanks to the dedication of a wide community of practitioners who bring their own experiences and creative perspectives, enriching and expanding the approach over time.
